A warm welcome to the WealthBriefing Swiss Awards 2018. Nominations are now open and we look forward to seeing old and new faces taking part in this prestigious event.
For those new to the awards, the categories are focused around three main areas:
- Experts (individuals and teams)
- Services for wealth managers and clients/institutions of all sizes and types
As in previous years, independence, integrity and genuine insight will be the watchwords of the judging process and will be conducted by an expert panel drawn from both private banks and trusted advisors/consultants to the sector.
To avoid any conflict of interest we have two judging panels. One panel of bankers who judge the trusted advisor categories. Another panel of trusted advisors who are responsible for judging the banking categories.
Winning an WealthBriefing Swiss Award sets organisations and individuals apart from their peers and is a tangible demonstration that they have something special to offer, rewarding achievement and showcasing top class performance and innovation.

There will be two judging panels for the awards. A panel of trusted advisors who will be responsible for judging the private banking categories. A second panel of private bankers will judge the trusted advisor categories. This is to ensure that commercially sensitive information is kept confidential and to avoid conflicts of interest.

Oliver Wyman Financial Services
Philippe Bongrand is a partner at Oliver Wyman in Zürich, from where he serves wealth and asset managers on growth and transformation issues. He has 25 years of both industry and consulting experience for wealth managers and has advised over 50 institutions in Switzerland and EMEA. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Philippe was at UBS Wealth Management in Zurich for seven years in charge of global functions such as strategy, business development, sales force effectiveness and marketing. Philippe started his career at Paribas within the internal risk audit function and worked at The Boston Consulting Group.
TCA Asset Management
Ludovic Bonnamour is managing director and partner of TCA Asset Management, a Swiss-based advisory boutique specialising in wealth management, corporate finance, fund services and family office solutions. Ludovic has worked for 14 years in international companies such as Allianz and HSBC in several functions from risk management to advisory services, and alongside internal and external clients in retail banking, private banking and corporate banking activities. Specialising in alternative investments as well as in quantitative fields, Ludovic has worked in the hedge funds industry, credit advisory, portfolio leverage analysis, Basel regulatory capital requirements and lending activities, while liaising with group offices before developing new services from TCA Asset Management since 2011.
Cecile Civiale Vuillier
Senior Wealth Planner / Trustee
Cecile has enjoyed a varied career working with small and large trust companies alike, earning a solid reputation for her work on international trust & foundation administration/corporate services. Prior to moving to Geneva she worked in the UK and France before relocating to Switzerland to head up a trust company. Cecile is a member of several significant professional bodies including The International Tax Planning Association, and the Association of International Business Lawyers. She is currently co-chairwoman of the STEP Swiss & Liechtenstein Federation and has qualifications in company law and practice, international trust management, trust administration and accounts, and trust creation.
Peritus Investment Consultancy
James is the founder and managing director of Peritus Investment Consultancy which he established to provide impartial guidance to private clients, family offices and trustees. The company’s expertise encompasses investment profiling, strategic and tactical asset allocation, extensive manager research, manager selection and ongoing consolidated reporting and monitoring. James draws on 25 years of industry experience gained at Ernst and Young Trust Company, ABN AMRO and Morgan Stanley Quilter. He is a regular participant in family office investment committees and is Fellow of the CISI.

Dr. Christoph Gosdenoz has more than 15 years of international professional experience. Before joining the Swiss Finance Institute, a private foundation created by Switzerland’s banking and finance community and leading Swiss universities, he worked as a financial analyst specialized in mergers and acquisitions, entrepreneurial finance, impact finance and risk management. Former employers include UBS in Zurich and in Mexico, as well as BNP Paribas in Geneva and Singapore. Christoph graduated with a Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Geneva, he is also a CFA charter-holder and holds a doctorate from the Edinburgh Business School. He has completed teaching and research assignments at top business schools and leading financial institutions and serves on several boards and investment committees.
J Stern & Co
Felicity joined J Stern & Co, a family owned private investment office in 2013, and runs their operation in Zurich. With over 30 years of private client, family office and private banking experience within Switzerland, serving in senior roles such as senior executive, managing director, in-house lawyer, and as trustee, Felicity has experienced a 360-degree view of the wealth management sector.
Felicity also holds board positions and has acted as a consultant to various firms seeking to establish their operating businesses in Switzerland. She is the regional co-chair of the Swiss & Liechtenstein STEP Federation. She has also acted as an expert to the judges of the annual STEP Private Client Awards and is also a member of the Professional Development Committee of STEP Worldwide.
Head of Swiss Operations
Justine Markovitz, is Withers’ head of Swiss operations and joined the firm in 1999 and moved to Geneva in 2005. She specialises in advising private clients and financial institutions on onshore UK and offshore tax, trusts and estate planning, with particular emphasis on planning for UK resident non-domiciliaries. She also advises on wills and trust drafting matters, voluntary disclosures under the UK’s voluntary disclosure programmes and fiduciary issues for trustees. Justine further specialises in advising families on succession and governance issues and works with those families to create structures and other legal solutions to implement their long term succession plans, both for their personal assets and their business interests.
Summit Trust International
Daniel Martineau is executive chairman of Summit Trust International, the Geneva-headquartered offshore trust provider. Prior to starting Summit Trust (formerly Close Trustees) business in Geneva, Daniel held management positions with Coutts’ private banking units in Nassau, Jersey and Geneva. He is accredited as a member of the Financial Planning Institute of Canada and is a member of STEP. Daniel is also a founder of the Swiss Association of Trust Companies.
Rawlinson & Hunter
Andrew McCallum is a partner at Rawlinson & Hunter in Geneva. He is a trustee for various UHNW and HNW families and also specialises in the accounting and auditing of trust and corporate structures. Andrew is a UK qualified chartered accountant and is a registered auditor in Switzerland, the UK and Ireland. He is Treasurer and a committee member of STEP Geneva, and sits on the STEP Worldwide professional standards committee. Andrew is also a long-standing member of the audit and risk committee of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Elmar Meyer is the founder and CEO of Lexpert Partners, a specialized law firm focused on financial services providers and their clients located in Zug. Elmar’s areas of specialization include advising Swiss and foreign banks, asset managers and family offices in all legal and regulatory areas. He also advises and assists HNW individuals in their (often cross-border) asset and estate planning. Before founding Lexpert Partners, Elmar was founding partner of GHM Partners, a legal and tax advisory firm in Zug. Prior to this he headed the legal and compliance department of Julius Baer in Dubai serving on its management committee and acting as a member of the board for Julius Baer in Cairo. Elmar also serves on the board on a number of major asset management companies in Switzerland.

Mark is head of the wealth management & private banking practice in Europe, and is globally responsible for the Scorpio wealth consulting business. Leads the development and delivery of market leading business performance consulting, leveraging the firm's proprietary data and analysis of client experience, pay & productivity, and talent to deliver unmatched insight and actionable advice. Over twenty years of financial services industry experience, focused on the private banking and wealth management sector. He holds a Masters (MEng) in the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos (MET) from St John's College, Cambridge University, and completed an accelerated development programme at the London Business School.
Osmond Plummer, is a Geneva-based wealth management expert active internationally as a trainer, coach and adviser of wealth management professionals, and a professor of finance at the EU Business School in Geneva and Montreux. Osmond worked in private banking in Guernsey, Hong Kong and Dubai prior to moving to Geneva in 1999. The Swiss correspondent for WealthBriefing and the founder of www.wealthcoaching.ch, Osy holds a BSc in Mathematics from Royal Holloway College (University of London) and an MBA from Warwick University Business School. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and holder of its diploma in financial studies.

Ray Soudah is the founding partner and chairman of MilleniumAssociates, the independent international M&A and corporate finance advisory firm based in Switzerland and the UK. Founded in 2000, MilleniumAssociates specialises in M&A and advisory services for the global financial services industry with particular focus on the global wealth and asset management sectors. Ray has extensive multicultural and multilingual wealth management and private banking/investment banking expertise, having held senior positions with Citibank, SBC/UBS, Cedel Bank, the National Bank of Bahrain, Midland Montagu Investment Banking, and Midland Montagu Securities working in territories as diverse as the US, Asia, the Middle East and Europe in addition to Switzerland.
Charles Russell Speechlys
Mark Summers is a qualified English solicitor and heads Charles Russell Speechlys’ Swiss offices. Mark specialises in providing international estate planning, trusts and taxation advice. He has particular expertise in working with US, Latin American, Continental European and Russian clients, family-owned business structures and clients working in the hedge fund and private equity sectors. Chambers Global ranks Mark as a leading individual for international private client work: he is described as the “architect of innovative solutions” and is praised for his “outgoing and charming client service.” Legal 500 describes Mark as a “go-to on complex jurisdictional matters”.
Dr Marcel Tschanz

Dr. Marcel Tschanz has over 20 years of professional experience that embraces a record of leading large multi-cultural teams in international environments and of managing complex long-term projects. Over this period he has worked in several financial serviced firms with P&L responsibilities in global wealth management organisations. In his last assignment Marcel headed VP Bank (Switzerland) AG as its CEO. Marcel has developed and implemented new service and business models and led the implementation of sustainable cultural change programmes. His current role as partner at PwC means he is responsible for WM strategy consulting and services for several large global private banks.
David Wallace Wilson is a partner in Schellenberg Wittmer’s private client & estates practice in Switzerland. He advises individuals domestically and internationally on all aspects of wealth structures and tax planning for their personal and business assets. He is specialised in matrimonial and inheritance issues including succession vehicles. David also administers cross-border estates and acts in family disputes including mediation. His additional areas of expertise include anti-money laundering (AML) and art law.
David currently acts as chairman of STEP Geneva and is the founder of the leading website on trusts in Switzerland (www.trusts.ch).
Private Bankers Panel
Etienne d’Arenberg, a limited partner in the Mirabaud group that he joined in 1999, is the recipient of the WealthBriefing Swiss Awards 2016 Leading Individual (Bankers) award. As a Mirabaud banker, and in his own family office he focuses on families, their overall circumstances and their portfolios as a head of the UK Market. Etienne graduated from the hotel management school (Lausanne) with an MSc (Management) of Boston University. Prior to that he was an MD at Creditanstalt Investment Bank in Vienna and an analyst in Paris. He speaks French, English, German, Italian, and has good notions of Dutch and Spanish.

Ariel supports UHNWI entrepreneurs and families in all financial advisory aspects and beyond, e.g. succession planning, philanthropy and relocation, together with other internal and external experts. Over more than 30 years in the banking sector, Ariel has held various managerial positions and is a regular speaker at conferences and the author of many articles and books on the subject. He is a member of STEP, ITPA, IISS and IFA.

Xavier Isaac is CEO of Accuro, supported by a multi-jurisdictional management team, and as such he is a principal driver of the group’s vision and strategy. Xavier has over 20 years of experience in various management positions at ABN AMRO Bank and Trust in Luxembourg, Geneva and in Jersey prior to joining Investec Trust in 2005 as the managing director of its Geneva office. He was also appointed CEO of the Investec Trust Group in 2009. Xavier also served as the inaugural vice-president of the Swiss Association of Trust Companies (SATC). He is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and since February 2016 has been the treasurer of the Swiss Philanthrophy Foundation.

Duncan is a managing director with Bank Lombard Odier in Geneva, responsible for the UK private client team. He has 36 years finance experience, the majority of which has been spent in Switzerland in the field of private banking, with a particular focus on UK resident non-UK domiciled clients. In addition to direct client experience, Duncan has for many years been responsible for managing private banking teams across jurisdictions. Duncan has previously held management positions in Geneva, Zürich and Copenhagen with HSBC Private Bank (Suisse), the Lloyds TSB Group and Jyske Bank.
Edmond de Rothschild Group
JCP has over 25 years of working experience in finance and management in Switzerland, France and the United States. He is the chief risk officer of the Edmond de Rothschild Group. Earlier in his career he was the partner in charge of the Geneva office of PricewaterhouseCoopers and then chief financial officer of EFG International. He is a graduate from IEP and EDHEC and has completed the Columbia Business School Senior Executive Programme.

Matthew Spencer is executive director and head of business development at Coutts with specific responsibility for developing, managing and coordinating relationships with professional service firms and family offices - an area he has specialised in since 1998. He joined from Credit Suisse in 2014 where he served as a member of the UK market area management team and was based in Switzerland between 2010 and 2012.

Stefano started his career at UBS in 1981. Having served as a client advisor for corporate and wealth management clients in Switzerland and New York he has also covered a wide range of line management position in several areas of wealth management. Stefano was head of HNW and UHNWI business for Italy International before being appointed head of the firm’s UHNWI business for the global established markets in Switzerland. Prior to his current role which started in 2015, Stefano led Wealth Management Europe International (i.e. the European cross-border business out of Switzerland and Singapore). He was appointed group managing director in 2014.

Tobias started his career with an international business incubator before joining the global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman in 2001 as associate and project manager for Financial Services Strategy Consulting. In 2006, he joined Credit Suisse as head of private banking strategy development, transferring to the front office as relationship manager (U)HNWI for the Germany offshore market. Between 2009 and 2012, Tobias headed up business areas northern Europe and north & west LATAM for Clariden Leu, a private banking subsidiary of Credit Suisse group. In 2012, he was appointed Credit Suisse head of market group for UK/International Offshore covering UK/Ireland, Nordics and Netherlands. In 2015 he assumed responsibility for all European business in Singapore. In these senior positions he was responsible for defining country strategies and for managing the sales force in France, Germany, Italy, UK/Ireland, Nordics, Benelux, Spain and Portugal. Tobias Wagner holds a Masters Degree in International Business Studies from the University of Maastricht and Management education from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston.

Bruce is now CEO of Weatherill Consulting providing advice on client centricity and wider strategic matters to wealth managers. He is the author of The Value of Trust: the quest by Wealth Managers for Trusted Advisor status and a number of other thought leadership reports.
Bruce is chairman of ClearView Financial Media and a non-executive of a number of companies including Fidelity Holdings UK, The Wisdom Council, ComPeer and JDX Consulting.
