Overview
The awards were focused around three main category groupings: experts (individuals and teams); products and services for wealth managers and clients, and institutions of all sizes and types.
These awards built on the success of our established worldwide awards programme, our events business and WealthBriefing’s unique position in the global wealth management market, by focusing on the European markets.
Independence, integrity and genuine insight were the watchwords of the judging process. This involved specially convened expert panels drawn from both private banks and trusted advisors and supported by relevant expert third-party organisations.
Uniquely, partner organisations were included to express the views of clients so that the WealthBriefingEuropean Awards will truly reflect excellence in wealth management from the grass roots up.
BACKGROUND
The WealthBriefing European Awards was supported primarily by our global network of daily newswires for the wealth and private asset management communities; WealthBriefing and WealthBriefingAsia.
Other supporting publications were Offshore Red, Family Wealth Report, Executive Compensation Briefing and WealthCareers.
TIMING
The selection and judging process for the 2014 awards began in the summer of 2013. Nominations opened on 2nd September 2013 and closed on 17th January 2014. All firms were notified whether they had made the shortlist by 21st February 2014.
MEDIA EXPOSURE
Entrants who were shortlisted were announced on all WealthBriefing media, as were the eventual winners.
Additionally, an extensive PR campaign highlighted all the winners and shortlisted entrants to relevant media.
AWARD CEREMONY FORMAT
The culmination of the process was a black-tie dinner on 15th May 2014 at The Guildhall, London during which the winners of the shortlisted entrants were announced.
This networking event was conducted in a slick and snappy style. The formalities werel not dragged out unnecessarily as is so often the case at industry awards.
PARTNERS
External organisations were brought into the judging process to further objectivity and to ensure that the views of the industry as a whole, along with ultimate client base, were represented.
These included specialists in branding, marketing, IT, philanthropy and investment management.
JUDGING PROCESS
There were two judging panels for the awards.
A panel of trusted advisors were responsible for judging the private banking categories.
A second panel of private bankers judged the trusted advisor categories.
This was to ensure that commercially sensitive information is kept confidential and to avoid conflicts of interest.

smartKYC’s AI software is used by banks to automate customer due diligence whether for remediation, onboarding, refresh or continuous monitoring; our technology drives faster, better, and more cost- effective KYC at every stage of the relationship – liberating human effort to focus on decision-making rather than laborious screening and research. smartKYC integrates all relevant KYC sources - external watchlists, media archives, open web search, private company data, internal blacklists and, like a human, it reads everything and extracts useful intelligence in the form of facts. smartKYC presents facts about risks like adverse media, but also provides insights into information like source of wealth, network risk and even ESG misdemeanours. Sophisticated hit scoring maximises relevance and minimises false positives. All of this is done at speed and at scale and, as such, straight through processing opportunities become obvious. In refresh or continuous monitoring mode, smartKYC watches only for net new risks as they emerge and never repeats what is already known.
